EAGLES SOAR OVER THE QUEENS BIRTHDAY WEEKEND
U/16 Boys take Gold at National Junior Classic
On Monday morning at Dandenong Stadium, the U/16 boy’s first team faced off with the Melbourne Tigers in the National Junior Classic Championship game and came away winners with a score line of 63-49.
Using the zone press to disrupt the flow of the Tigers famous “Shuffle” offense, the pressure defense forced turn over’s and break away baskets in the first half to give the Eagles a slender lead at the first break. Max Di Ciccio was outstanding in the first half with 13 pts and he was supported well by Tom Boek, Alex Bolzanello and Jack Dean.
As the game went into the second half, the Eagles maintained their pressure and continued to rebound the missed opportunities by the Tigers. As the game continued into the final quarter, the Eagles maintained a double figure lead, good ball movement and use of the inside / outside game plan in offense. In addition, continuing to look for the fast break saw the Eagles run out with a 14 point win and a gold medal for the players and staff. Max Di Ciccio was named MVP and it was very well deserved.
This has capped a very good 8 month run for Head Coach Ross Clarke winning the U/16 National Championship in Tamworth last July, winning the U/18 VC Final in August last year and the 2013 National Junior Classic on Monday morning.
On behalf of the club, well done to all involved, for what is a great achievement.
