Basketball Victoria Country to assist Churchill Senior Basketball Association
Basketball Victoria Country has been working with the Churchill Senior Basketball Association to form a governance structure to oversee the senior domestic competition at the Churchill Stadium.
A Special General Meeting of members conducted on Thursday, 15 September 2016 failed to elect enough committee members to operate and oversee the competition in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Reform Act.
After careful consideration of all the options, Basketball Victoria Country has appointed a competitions administrator to ensure that Senior Domestic Basketball continues at the Churchill Stadium.
“This is not the preferred option.” BVC General Manager, David Huxtable said. “However, domestic basketball is very important to the local community and they have a first class facility and people wanting to play.”
The Competitions administrator will work with a number of volunteers and Latrobe Leisure to ensure the Senior Domestic Basketball Competition continues.
Whilst this is occurring, BVC will also commence discussions with the Churchill Junior Basketball Association with a view to presenting an amalgamation option for the two incorporations.
“Churchill Juniors and Churchill Seniors are the last remaining associations in Country Victoria to operate a separate affiliation with regards to Juniors and Seniors.” David continued. “BVC would like to see that one incorporated body assumes the responsibility of basketball administration in the long term.”
Any person who is interested in assisting the Churchill Senior Domestic competition in the short term, should contact Matt Royal on 0423 414437 or email:churchillsba@gmail.com
We anticipate that the new season will start the week beginning 24th October 2016 and subsequently team nominations will be called for over the coming week.
