Youth League Men and Women have a positive start to pre-season
On Sunday 4th February, our Victorian Youth Championship men’s and women’s teams kicked off their pre-season games with two fantastic wins. Both teams have been hard at work since October 2017 and it has certainly paid off.
Youth League Men- Diamond Valley Eagles 50 vs Knox Raiders 47
In 2017, the YL men were renowned for their defensive pressure and making it incredibly difficult for teams to score. Coach Braden Cotter has continued that focus, holding the Knox Raiders to only 5 points for the opening quarter.
Knox rallied in the second quarter and brought the game back to a close contest. Liam Killey and Ben Barlow were stand outs for the Eagles at both ends of the floor.
Some of our U18’s made their debut with Erik Kafritsas, Declan Ayres and Drew Giddens showing that they can match it with senior men.
The Eagles finished with a 50-47 win and are looking forward to continuing their development as they lead into the season.
Youth League Women- Diamond Valley Eagles 64 vs Warrandyte Venom 31
The Eagles jumped out of the gates early getting good contributions from all 12 players, forcing the Venom to a zone at quarter time. The Eagles showed patience against the zone with great ball movement and it resulted in open looks. At the defensive end, the Eagles put the clamps on and the Venom had to work for every opportunity to score.
Meg Crupi and Amelia Smith lead the way for the Eagles with one of our U18’s, Mikayla Peterson, making a solid case for minutes this season.
Congratulations to both the Youth League men’s and women for an excellent start to pre-season games.
