AFL Gippsland has completed another major preseason signing, with Sale and District Junior Football Association joining the regional administration centre.
The association’s member clubs recently voted unanimously to outsource governance and administration of the competition to AFL Gippsland, with the handover process already underway.
SDJFA spokesperson Wayne Langford said the general consensus among the member clubs was that it was time for a change.
“The main reason the clubs chose to go with AFL Gippsland is because the sport and competition had gotten bigger than what a couple of volunteers are capable of delivering,” Langford said.
“What AFL Gippsland can provide in terms of governance and administration, things like working with children checks, child safety standards and writing constitutions, is fantastic.”
AFL Gippsland region general manager Travis Switzer said the decision also enabled AFL Gippsland to dedicate further resources to the development of junior football in Sale and surrounding towns.
“We already have a full time development manager assigned to that part of the region but this means we can work even more closely with clubs from an administration perspective to make sure they are part of a competition that appeals to and caters to the needs of junior players,” Switzer said.
“We thank the clubs for their support and look forward to working with them to deliver a thriving competition into the future.”
The move means four of Gippsland’s six junior football competitions and 16 of the region’s 21 leagues and umpires assocations are administred by the AFL Gippsland RAC – the most of any Regional Commission in Victoria.
