Senior Championship Weekly Wrap
A tough weekend for our Senior Championship sides, with our VYCW side the only team able to register a win.
VYCW
Eagles 72 def. by Knox Raiders 80
The VYCW were unable to get a road win on Saturday evening, unable to contain the size of Knox. Playing from behind nearly all night, the Eagles were unable to get the margin under 5 points in the 4th quarter. Mikayla Peterson had a night out, with 24 points, while Ivana Vasiljevic continued her strong season finishing the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Eagles 80 def. Hawthorn Magic 67
The Youth Women were able to bounce back on Sunday with a strong showing against a talented Magic side. The Eagles used some hot shooting from beyond the arc to eventually grind out the victory. No one was able to stop Ivana Vasiljevic, who had another big output, with 23 points (8/10FG, 5/6 3PT). All Eagles were able to hit the scoreboard, showing how much depth is in the team.
VYCM
Eagles 60 def. by McKinnon 99
The VYCM had a tough Saturday evening, going down to a well drilled Cougars side. Turnovers hurt the Eagles as McKinnon capitalized, shooting 60% for the game. Dylan Dunstan and Nic Sorani lead the team in points, with 15 and 14 points respectively.
Eagles 78 def. by Magic 86 (OT)
The Youth Men were unlucky to go down in this one, forcing overtime with the top of the ladder Magic! The Eagles were able to force a miss to finish regulation, with good defense by Jack Roberts, sending the game into extra time. Hawthorn were able to string together some good defensive possessions in overtime to come away with the win. Lukas Kafritsas had a day out with 21 points (including 2 massive 3 pointers in the 4th quarter), 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
SEABL Women
Eagles 66 def. Geelong Supercats 67
The SEABL Women trailed for most of the game Saturday, eventually just falling short to the Supercats. Neither team could get it going from beyond the arc, shooting a low percentage from the 3 point line. A slow 3rd quarter offensively is what hurt the Eagles, only able to manage 10 points for the term. Once again, Lauren Scherf had a good game for the Eagles, finishing with 23 points (55%FG) and 12 rebounds.
SEABL Men
Eagles 76 def. by Geelong Supercats 96
A slow start cost the SEABL Men against a Geelong team that was hungry for a win. The Eagles struggled from the field and the Supercats were able to take advantage of the misses and punish them on the break. Mike Best had another double-double (19 points and 16 rebounds), while Darcy Harding had 19 of his own, including 4 three point makes.
