Interleague carnival coming up

By Michael Mourbey, KNTFL president

With the 2016 Infigen Energy SE Zone Carnival just over a month away the excitement at holding the carnival in our league for the first time since it was formed is starting to build.

Providing the opportunity for the spectators of our league to come along and see the best players from the SE compete at both senior and junior level is an enticing prospect.

The carnival will be held at Naracoorte on the June long weekend, seniors and U/17 on the Saturday and the long running Glenelg Junior carnival returning to our league on the Sunday also at Naracoorte.

The carnival is also a selection chance for players to be selected in the Murray South East team that will go on to play at Port Lincoln in July and the opportunity to represent the State Country team.

A number of players have gone on to achieve this honour in recent seasons including Adam Merrett and Bill Laurie for example.

The KNTFL team will be headed by Adam Merrett as coach and Brad Richardson and Kane Cuthbertson as assistants coaches and selectors.

Adam has been a huge contributor to football at the top level and his passion for interleague and zone football is proven helping the KNTFL out over many years. Brad is a very experienced and successful coach who has also been a great contributor to both interleague and zone over the years and we are very excited to have Kane step up as an assistant coach and selector, Kane also is passionate about rep football and has done a great job with his involvement with the Glenelg academy.

We will certainly be looking to Brad and Kane to have a lot of input in the lead up and day as in a major announcement we can confirm that Adam has been appointed as the Murray South East Zone coach for 2016 and will be in charge of the zone team that heads to Port Lincoln in July. To give Adam the space he needs to be able to look at all players on the day the support around him will be of big assistance to him and the zone.

It is a tremendous honour for Adam to be appointed zone coach and the league congratulates him on this honour. It is great that a current KNTFL coach is able to step up into such a prestigious role and shows all players and coaches in the league that there is great opportunities available.

The one thing I would like to see is as many players as possible to make themselves available for interleague. It is a fantastic day of high quality football and the chance to get to know the other players in the league and the South East. We have to select at least 5 under 21 players and these players are in line also for zone selection as there is a under 21 requirement for the zone carnival as well.

We will be looking to announce an initial squad next week, 4 weeks out and announce training dates as well. Having last year had a reunion of some of the great KNTFL interleague sides we are really looking for clubs as well to support the league and have the best of the best available to continue the outstanding success that we have in the past and the local pride of competing at the highest level.
