BNT assists basketball partners

Basketball NT recently engaged the services of Smith Sports Consultants to conduct education and training workshops. The training was for staff and volunteers from BNT, Darwin, Palmerston and Filipino Basketball leagues and centred around the Basketball Network online capabilities and website administration.more

FIBA Rules Changes

FIBA has made a number of changes to the rules, which are effective from the 1st October 2014. BNT's Executive Officer Andrew Farley and High Performance Coach Phil Collins are currently in Canberra attending a High Performance meeting with their state and Basketball Australia colleagues. The meeting is being held at the Australian Institute of Sport and will discuss needs and funding for the 2014/25 financial year and other topics.more

Development of Palmerston Basketball Association underway

Sports Consultants, Judy and Steve Smith are currently engaged by BNT to assist in the establishment of an affiliated association in the Palmerston and regional area. A very enthusiastic and motivated steering committee has been formed and their opinions, along with statutory requirements, have heavily influenced the scope of work being undertaken.more

Deckchairs Fundraiser "Frozen" 12th June

In an absolute nail biter Darwin Crocs defeated Alice Springs 38-35
Top scorer was Ashlee Walsh for Darwin with 9. The scoring was shared around very evenly throughout the team.
Top scorer for Alice Springs was Felisha Swan on 10. Darwin Crocs won the first half 12-7 and 13-4. Alice Springs had a strong second half 16-9 and 8-4 but missed the win by 3 points.more

U18 West Arnhem Girls v U18 Darwin Girls

The stadium was electric during the u18 Girls Granfinal.West Arnhem's Terrizeida Maramila attacked the basketball repeatedly with some amazing skills and top scored with 14 points. Best on court for Darwin was Kira Pendlebury with 18. Darwin was undermanned with only 5 players but lasted til the final siren with a score of 41-32more

U14 Girls Darwin Storm v Darwin Thunder

Darwin Storm u14 girls had a great win over Darwin Storm. Final score 57-39. Top scorer for Storm was Ambah Kowcun and for Thunder Indiana Willoughby. Storm won the first half 35-11 but Thunder took the second half 27-22, unfortunately it was not enough to take the match.more

U14 Boys Grandfinal Darwin Crocs v Darwin Storm

In another close Grandfinal Darwin Crocs won the Grandfinal over Darwin Storm. Final score 57-40. Top scorer for Crocs was Cody Taylor and for Storm James Tooheymore

U12 Boys Play Off 3rd -4th. Palmerston v Darwin Storm

Palmerston had an exciting win over Darwin Storm in the u12s. The Palmerston team who had participants from Coomalie and Bachelor played exceptionally well as team given that they only met on day one of the Challenge. Bayden Collins was top scorer for the combined Palmerston team and top scorer for Storm was Braith Schloss. With a final score of 36-33 it was a match worth watchingmore

U12 Boys Grand Final Darwin Crocs v Alice Springs

In a close match for the u12 Boys Grandfinal Darwin took the win 43-36.Mixon Laurel top scored for Crocs, while Shaun Byrne put the points on the board for Alice. Alice lead in the first quarter but a second quarter burst of 17 to 7 saw Crocs head in to half time with the lead. Alice came out fighting in the third, winning the quarter 12-11 but a consistent effort from Crocs saw them take the winmore

U12 Girls Grand Final Darwin Storm v Darwin Crocs

The Darwin Storm girls took out the u12 girls Grandfinal winning 45-22 over Darwin Crocs. Storm came out strong with a 13-3 opening quarter. Crocs fought back in the second but strong scoring from Lesha Rendberg saw Storm keep the lead. Sharayah Lee was consistant throught the game for Crocs.more

What a game for the Victoria Daly girls coming up against the powerhouse Darwin Crocs and only going down by 1 point! Crocs won the first,second and fourth quarters 6-4,12-10,10-9. The Victoria Daly girls won the third 16-10. Both teams showed tremendous spirit and good sportsmanshipmore

In match reflective of the whole Challenge, we saw great sportsmanship, outstanding athleticism and cheeky smiles on Court 2 at 9am. West Arnhem taking the match in a close game throughout with final score of 35-33.Terrizeida Maramila top scored with 30 points. Melissa Andrews led the scoring for Ngukurr. Alice Springs u16 girls and their coaching team showed great sportsmanship today towards the young girls from Jilkminggan. With Jikminggan undermanned, Alice Springs offered to play with only 4 players and also allowed "overage" player and Event Manager Judy Smith to take the court to help the girls amass 36 points and have a great time doing so. BNT Wheelchair Basketball Exhibition Game

The BNT Challenge crowd enjoyed an exhibition match of Wheelchair Basketball on the Court 1 show court.The teams included Rollers players Tom O'Neil Thorne and CJ Grogan and Para Olympians Melanie Hall and Liam Hunter. Players from the BNT Challenge were invited were invited to have a go and many took to opportunity to participate.more

U18 Boys Filipino League v West Arnhem

10-10 in the first Quarter set up a tight match between the Filo boys and West Arnhem. 13-12 in the Second Quarter with Tyrone Ceba high scoring. The third quarter was again evenly matched with 11-11 and the last quarter saw West Arnhem pull ahead 13-10. With a final score of 46-44 it was a great match up.more

West Arnhem matching East Arnhem for points in the fourth quarter in a hard played game. East Arnhem showed their strength taking the game 32 to 16. A strong 2nd Quarter by East Arnhem helped them keep their lead 18-5 at half time and West Arnhem backing up by playing a strong last quarter.more

West Arnhem played fantastically against Jikminggan taking out the win 29-8. Jikminggan showed great defense keeping West Arnhem to only scoring 2 points in the 3rd quarter. A well played game by both teams.more

U14 Girls Darwin Thunder V Palmerston

Palmerston showing strong in a hard game against Darwin Thunder who took the win 61 to 2. With a brand new Palmerston team they showed enormous effort and continued to play hard. Darwin Thunder played strong defense allowing them to make many fast-breaksmore

U14 Boys Palmerston V Darwin Storm

With great persistence shown by Palmerston, Darwin Storm showed to strong taking the lead 68 to 12. Palmerston's players only meeting as they walked onto the court, with kids from Litchfield, Daly River, Coomali and Palmerston showed great teamwork throughout the whole game.more

The Jikminggan community has entered an under 16 boys and girls team, while the Darwin association has entered an additional under 18 boys team for the Challenge. We welcome these 3 additional teams, which brings the total number of Challenge teams to 44. The new draw will be advertised via the website by the end of Wednesday. Thanks for your patience.more

More refs needed as first clinic is scheduled

All referees who have registered, or are still to register, their intent to officiate the BNT Challenge are asked to attend a training clinic on Tuesday 15th April from 6.00-9.00pm at Darwin Basketball stadium, court 5. The clinic will prepare referees for the event, and discuss the challenges of tournament officiating v's league officiating.more

Want to do the Level 0 Coaching Course at the Challenge?

BNT is inviting any interested coaches, or potential coaches, to register for one of the Level 0 coaching courses which will be held during the Challenge. One course will run Friday 18th 6-8pm while the second will be Saturday 10-12.00. Coaches have a choice of either course. Click 'more' for additional information and registration process.more

The BNT boys are currently playing in the Under 18 Nationals in Canberra. Coach Phil Collins has been impressed with the improvement in the boy's games despite the results. Basketball NT finds a new home

The offices of Basketball NT are now located at 4/25 Vanderlin Drive, Casuarina. Most of the relocation occurred earlier this week, but the final installation of furniture will continue through the week. Drop in and say hello, with the office open 9.00am till late Monday to Friday. Board member Chris Hayden is pictured assembling bookcases for the office.more

Basketball Centre of Excellence opens in Darwin

Australian Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis was in Darwin on Saturday April 5 to launch the Basketball NT Centre of Excellence, a new initiative to provide elite development and heightened opportunities to talented junior NT basketballers. A good crowd of BNT officials,parents,coaches and development players were on hand for the opening.more

BNT Challenge offers more that just games

The BNT Challenge over the Easter break will offer far more than just games of basketball. A clinic for players, a level O coaching course, a referee course, an advanced coaching clinic, an administrators workshop as well as a fun time at Darwin Wave Park will provide participants with both fun and educational programs around the games.more

Event Manger appointed for 2014 Challenge

International basketball administrator, Judy Smith, has been appointed Event Manager for the 2014 NT Challenge. Judy is in Darwin this week, meeting with key people and assessing the status of preparations to date. Judy will work remotely from her home in Coffs Harbour, returning to Darwin on a full time basis towards the end of March.more
