The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) has been involved with AFL Victoria’s Under 18 Competition since its inception in 1992 when it took on the role of the competition's naming rights sponsor.
This sponsorship has grown to become one of the longest running partnerships in Australian Sport.
The TAC, Victoria's compulsory third party motor accident insurer, is committed to improving Victoria's road safety.
With learner and young drivers two of the TAC's core segments, the TAC involvement in Victoria's talented player program provides thousands of young people, parents and guardians involved with TAC Cup clubs, important life skills in the areas of road safety awareness and individual responsibility.
As part of its increased focus on reducing speed-related road trauma, the TAC promotes the 'Speed Hurts' message through the TAC Cup competition.
The TAC educates players and their parents on the dangers of speeding and work towards the goal of making speeding as socially unacceptable as drink driving.
TAC Cup players are often leaders in their peer groups and are expected to demonstrate a commitment to safe driving practices, whether it is as learner drivers, P Plate drivers, or as passengers in cars driven by their mates.
The TAC also continues to support learner drivers via developed programs which encourage eligible TAC Cup players to achieve their 120 hours driving practice at the club level.
