Part of the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program (AFL talent identification and development program), the NAB AFL U18 National Championships is played annually between state and territory teams. Vic Metro and Vic Country field teams made up from the State Academy squads.
The competition is split into two divisions, with Vic Metro and Vic Country competing in Division 1 alongside South Australia and Western Australia.
Teams play each other twice in a home and away format spread out over an eight week period. There are no finals played rather the team with the best win/loss record and percentage at the completion of the matches wins the championships.
The best Division 1 player of the championships is awarded the Larke Medal, with both Vic Metro and Country also selecting a team MVP for the championship.
