Emerging Talent Program

SA COUNTRY BASKETBALL EMERGING TALENT PROGRAM (E.T.P.)

Due to the World Championship age groupings having changed to U/17 & U/19 Internationally, SA Country Basketball has identified a need to develop our younger athletes, and provide opportunities at an earlier age level. Various other sports codes already run similar representative programs for this early group.  The establishment of a recognized underpinning program adds an emphasis on association support, with greater importance in teaching base level skills, and team concepts.  Ultimately, this will benefit all Associations in SA Country Basketball by raising the player numbers at a pivotal age, and ensuring we continue to identify and develop both players and potential coaches within our member associations.  Those athletes and coaches involved in this joint venture between the local Association and the SAC delivered DNSP will be referred to as the (Emerging Talent Program).  With the view that those selected have the potential to one day represent SA Country Basketball at the Australian Junior Country Cup. Australian Junior Championships or represent Australia at International level.

Nomination and Selection of ETP Athletes/Coaches

This must be done in a shared role between the DNSP Head Coach and the local Association.  Once athletes have been selected, or trialled, the local Association must be kept informed of their development and training frequency.  This can be done by a brief email each month, or a regular meeting with the nominated Association contact or secretary.

Status of ETP Athletes

Association ETP athletes will have a link to the State-wide SACBC DNSP, but will not be recognised as DNSP status athletes.  Therefore only DNSP status athletes will be eligible to wear the official Red/Navy DNSP reversible training singlet.

ETP Uniform

Association athletes must wear an association/club training uniform.  This can be purchased by the individual, or by the association. Associations may choose to use their local/current supplier, although we would encourage all squads to use the SACBC sponsor and official uniform supplier Sportscentre.  Please view attached order form.

Training

The training frequency and contact hours should be set to minimise time & commitments of the DNSP/Association Network Coaches.  Ideally we would want a three tier training schedule  consisting of:

v  ETP Squad (60 minutes)

v  Junior DNSP (90 minutes)

v  Senior DNSP (90 minutes)

Due to limited resources, court availability etc, in some areas the  ETP Squad may train with the Junior DNSP Squad. Approval for this must first come from the SACDM.

DNSP Regional’s

If the scheduled DNSP Regional is to be held in your association, a minimum of three male & three female (6 maximum) ETP athletes can be invited to attend the Junior Regional Session.

Costs

Costs should be done on a user pays basis, and to be worked out between all stakeholders (Association/DNSP).  Participation in this program does not give the athlete automatic entry into the DNSP, or the U/13 Regional Talent Squad the following year.  Athletes will be evaluated on the DNSP selection criteria.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the program.
