The plans have been finalised, and now Contractors are being selected to construct a new Multi-purpose stadium and upgrade existing amenities at Mackay Basketball’s Candlestick Park.

Grassroots basketball clubs in Queensland have scored a slam dunk with the Bligh Government investing $600,000 in their future thanks to the Sport and Recreation Infrastructure program.

Mackay Basketball has taken another step in its aim to establish itself as the premier sport in Mackay.

Basketball, Rugby League and Soccer in the Mackay electorate will benefit from $446,559 in Bligh Government funding as part of the $20 million Sport and Recreation Infrastructure program, State Member for Mackay, Tim Mulherin, announced today.

Leading property and construction consultants Davis Langdon, an AECOM company, has been selected as the preferred Project Manager for Mackay’s multi-purpose indoor sports development.

Building Committee Chair Nigel Thomas said the appointment of a project manager will allow for construction to quickly ramp up once the federal funding is confirmed and a preferred builder has been selected. 

Expressions of Interest for securing a Project Manager have been released this week.

Thanks to a $6 million commitment from the Australian Government, a committee has lodged aproject proposal for assessment  to the Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government to transform Candlestick Park stadium into a modern multi-purpose complex. 

The Labour Governement and LNP Coalition have announced funding commitments to help build three addtional indoor courts as part of Mackay Basketball's expansion plan to build a multi-use indoor facility.
