MODIFICATION/CANCELLATION OF GAMES DUE TO HEAT POLICY

Please note the alteration to the By-Law dealing with heat policy effective from 17th October 2016. 

The committee has changed the By-laws to take into account the newly installed air conditioning.  The new policy aligns with the policies used for air conditioned stadia by other associations through out South Australia.

In hot weather players need to drink 250ml of water minimum 1/2 hour before attending the game and have at least 1 litre minimum consumption during the game, with further hydration (500ml) afterwards. Bringing a 750ml guzzler is not enough. For those who fail to bring adequate water, they should ask The Rex staff for a cup (if there are none in the dispenser) and use the drink fountain regularly.

All coaches should be made aware of the signs of heat stress/dehydration.

The Heat policy uses maximum temperatures forecast for Nuriootpa on the 6pm Channel 9 News/ Dept of Meterology website (www.bom.gov.au) the preceeding evening. The drinks break policy will have flexibility depending on the actual ambient temperature at the time of the game. If, for example, a cool change has come through the ref in charge may decide not to implement the drinks break policy. If a day is particularly humid, the RIC may implement the drinks policy at a lower temperature.

 HEAT POLICY

 GAME CANCELLATIONS

 Game cancellations will only occur when the stadium air conditioning is not operating and where the maximum forecast temperature for Nuriootpa for the following day, as advised on the 6 pm News of Channel 9 television, is

             Under 10’s - 36 degrees or more

             Under 12’s to Under 18’s – 38 degrees or more

             Seniors - 40 degrees or more.

 No forfeit or other costs will be payable in respect to such games.

 GAME MODIFICATION

 U10’s-Wherethe maximum forecast temperature for Nuriootpa for the following day, as advised on the 6pm News of Channel 9 television, is 32 degrees or more, or at such other times as may be appropriate at the discretion ofthe Referee in Charge on any particular night, or

All other competitions- Where the maximum forecast temperature for Nuriootpa for the following day, as advised on the 6pm News of Channel 9 television, is 34 degrees or more, or at such other times as may be appropriate at the discretion of the Referee in Charge on any particular night,

 (i)            the referees will, unless a charged time out has been taken near to the relevant time, call a non-charged time out at a suitable break in play as near as practical to the middle of each quarter of the game to permit players to take drinks.

(ii)          the referees will attempt to facilitate the calling of charged time outs by the coaches with a view to permit further regular drinks breaks for players.

 AUTOMATIC HEAT POLICY CANCELLATIONS WILL NOT BE ADVISED DIRECTLY TO THE TEAMS IN ADVANCE. IT IS EXPECTED THAT TEAMS WILL CHECK THE RELEVENT INFORMATION THEMSELVES. 

Game cancellation occurs the preceding night at 7:00pm after the News,and subsequent un-forecast weatherc hanges do not affect the cancellation decision.
