Jim Hirst is a 55 year old who lives in Kerang with his partner Simonie. He has three sons (Matthew, Jonathan and Damien). He has worked at Northern District Community Health Service as a School Focused Youth Service Coordinator for the past 8 years. Jim was previously employed as a primary school teacher for 25 years. His current job takes him to 55 schools within with 5 Local Government Areas where he also connects with many community service agencies.
Jim has been involved in football as a player, coach and administrator for more than 40 years.
Jim played his early football in the Victoria Amateur Football League (VAFA) and Victoria Football League (VFA) in Melbourne. After two years of primary school teaching in Melbourne, Jim and his family decided to move to the country. His playing career continued at Koondrook and Kerang Football Clubs in the old Northern District Football League where he was an interleague representative and a member of Kerang’s 1987 senior premiership team. In 1988 he moved to the Kerang & District Football League and played with Wandella for 4 seasons. His career continued as a senior player with the Murrabit Football Club from 1992-1997. In 2004 Jim made a comeback and was a member of the Murrabit Reserves premiership side.
Jim coached the undefeated Murrabit U/13 team in 1996 and following that he coached the Murrabit U/17s to 6 premierships. In 2011 he was selected as a state finalist in the Youth Coach of the Year award. While at Murrabit he was also a committee member for 10 years, social club president and a senior selector. His efforts around the club were rewarded with a life membership in 2010. He was also a Golden Rivers Football League (GRFL) junior interleague coach for 18 years and for 13 years he has filled the role of GRFL Junior Liaison Officer.
In 2013 Jim was invited to be an inaugural member of the Central Murray Region Commissioner and he continues in that role today.
