Season 1980
Coomealla
kicked 11.2 (68) to win its second Under 15
premiership by defeating Merbein, 7.8 (50)
Wentworths Football Guide scribe, 'The Chicken Hawk'
wrote, "The Under 15 team had their win the hard way.
They played a very determined and disciplined Merbein team.
The boys took a while to get going and did not look like
winners at half time. The Merbein boys used the ball well
and had our boys bewildered at times.
The third quarter was ours and this was sufficient
to win the day. The Merbein boys and their coach are to
be congratulated. Up until the points furore they were
lower down the ladder, however on performances probably
would have won through to the final anyhow because
they proved really worthy grand finalists."
The points furore revolved around both a Mildura and a Red Cliffs
player who gave wrong dates of birth. Mildura and Red Cliffs lost
the points for every game they won in which those boys played.
