In 1998 Vivian Walker and Wendy Townley’s daughters, who attended Oakleigh South Primary School, pestered their mothers about playing netball.  As a result, Wendy and Viv started a team, training after school, using the school’s asphalt area and with the school supporting the initiative.

The team was registered with the Caulfield and District Netball Association (CDNA) with the name ‘Oakleigh South Netball Club’.  Vivian and Wendy decided the theme for the club should be gemstones and named the first team the ‘Crystals’.  In the subsequent thirteen years, with the support from many parents and friends, the club has grown to many teams.

Since the club’s debut, both Vivian and Wendy have served on the Oakleigh South and CDNA committees in a number of important capacities.   The pair’s contribution to founding, establishing and nurturing a club, while enjoying the rewards of creating another sporting option for children, is unsurpassed.   To recognize their tremendous efforts, both were presented with an inaugural life membership at the annual presentation night in June 2007.  Past President, Sandra Calvert, said the club owed its very existence to these two women.

Today, OSNC remains a club based on the ongoing support of many volunteers with a family-friendly focus.
