And we’re off……..
We arrived at school at 5.30am. Some students were even earlier than that but everyone was on time. After checking our money into the “bank” with Mr. Trof we boarded the bus, waved to our very sleepy parents and headed to the airport.
When we checked our bags in, so they wouldn’t end up in Japan. On our way through the airport some people got randomly selected for bag checks. Then we boarded the plane for the 55 minute flight to Hobart. The take off was rough but when we were up in the air it wasn’t too bad.
During landing we experienced some turbulence, which was fun and everyone was relieved when we touched down.
Our coach driver John met us, loaded our luggage and took us straight to the cute little town of Richmond.
Richmond
When we arrived in Richmond John drove us around the town and showed us all the major attractions we were to explore later on foot. John explained the history of the town, which made it a very interesting for us. He showed us the old bridge, which was built by convicts in 1823. He then showed us the oldest church in Australia – St Johns and the kids at the school ran by the coach waving to us as we drove past.
After that we had lunch at the Richmond bakery where we got to choose between 4 types of pies and a fruitbox, Most people then paid a visit to the lolly shop where gobstoppers and other very yummy treats were purchased.
After that some of us paid the $4 to visit the old gaol. In there we saw many historical sights and some mean punishments they used.
Zoo Doo Wildlife Park
We arrived at the park at about 1.00pm after a relatively short trip from Richmond.
Some of the highlights were as follows:
- The pig was fat and liked belly rubs – Bianca’s favourite animal in Park
- The bus tour was a highlight because we got to feed the emus, ostriches and the camel Clemantine. We were given feed and the animals reached right into the bus. There were plenty of squeals as fingers came close to being dinner.
- The funniest looking animal was the horse with short legs. It looked like a sausage dog
- In the animal nursery we fed the baby goats milk and hopped into the enclosure with them to pat them. They liked to chew and bite on things including Adam’s hoody drawstrings.
- There were also colourful chickens
- We saw the Tassie Devil’s being fed. They had very sharp teeth and looked mean as they grabbed at the meat they were being given.
- We each had a turn feeding the young lioness Keira. She was very playful and was watched over by the male lion, Bacouri.
- There were many varieties of monkeys. There were two little monkeys with baby twins (marmosets). The father looks after them and only gives them to the mother when he wants to.
- Many of us held the python. Mr. Trof looked like he was being strangled.
- Some of the baby wallabies had babies that were still in their mother’s pouch. There was some albino ones too.
- Very tired we boarded the coach about 4.00pm and head straight for our home for four days – Riverfront Motel and Villas – we were in the villas.
Riverfront Motel and Villas
The accommodation is massive. The boys are pretty jealous of the girls because they have a mansion. But their villas are amazing.
The wifi is great, accommodation superb and the 7 acres of grounds good to let off steam.
