Trainees will wear Academy uniforms as appropriate to their watch duties when rostered on.
All members will wear their Academy name badge at all awake times when onboard the ship. This is to identify their name and membership of the Academy.
Multicultural membership: Regardless of your study program, ethnicity, gender or family status, you live and learn on board our cruise ships as members of a training team in a supportive learning community of very diverse and talented people of all ages. The programs are designed to challenge every trainee to live and enjoy their life to the full.
Membership of your "Watch" will be different from anything you have experienced. Regardless of your training program, you will be selected "Out of the Hat" to become a member of a "Watch", consisting of a group of 8 trainees. Everything you do will be supported by your Watch and you will be expected to support and assist all other members of your Watch. A member, elected by your Watch and approved by the Academy Master, will assume responsibility for Watch leadership. Watches will be organised into Port and Starboard Watches to attend to duties, both in trainee areas and throughout the public areas of the ship.
Your daily schedule will challenge you morally, mentally, and physically in your academic study, required work experience commitment and life skills training.
Life Skills Training: is an expectation of all members regardless of your academic field to address learning in all these areas:
- Fitness (regular healthy exercise),
- Hospitality (Friendly communication, shelter, maintenance of personal space)
- Catering (food & nutrition - good eating habits)
- Survival (In water and personal defence training)
- Personal growth in self-awareness through Challenge (an ongoing commitment to recreational adventure activities - your ICan backpack).
- Contemplation (Your purpose in life, faith, oneness with the universe)
All trainees are encouraged to join the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme as a very effective way of building your "Good Person", world citizen skills. Click here to find out about it.
Academy Master's task is to challenge, support and guide members through to graduation as exceptionally competent and fully confident people ready to face their future.
