Don't use Tobacco or Drugs. All Academy Members learn to shun tobacco products and illegal drugs entirely. Academy is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is illegal in all public buildings and in most public outdoor places in Australia. The same applies to our ships and our Collegiate resorts as best as possible. Both habits are a health risk.
However, as Academy is part of a commercial Cruise Ship and resorts that cannot restrict people from using tobacco outdoors, some outdoor places may be identified for passenger or crew smokers. Academy members should only enter that space when on roster duty that requires entry to that space.
Academy policy - the use of tobacco products, while still legal for people over 18 years in Australia, is strongly discouraged. If it is known the applicant is a smoker during the enrolment process, their application will be rejected.
Use of illegal drugs or irresponsible use of alcohol is strictly forbidden as part of Academy discipline:
- onboard including ALL outdoor areas
- while participating in Academy approved activities away from the ship, including LIBERTY in any situation where membership of Academy crew is recognised
- while wearing Academy uniforms or carrying Academy identification.
and, with proof, is an immediate "Strike 3" or RED Card offence resulting in immediate removal from the ship (or locked in a cabin for discharge at the next port of call in the case of the ship) or Collegiate resort with no right of appeal.
Responsible service and use of alcohol is part of your core training. Academy provides the opportunity, as part of the Australian Hospitality Culture to learn about various drinks, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic.
The Principal reserves the right at any time to require members to undergo tests for use of alcohol or illegal drugs.
