Winners crowned at Wynyard

Wynyard Yacht Club hosted the 2016 Tasmanian Hansa Class Championships on the weekend, and Chris Symonds wrote the following report.

Well we have reached the end of a great weekend with the Hansa State Champs done and dusted. I always believe a regatta is only as good as the preparation and people who make it happen - it sure showed. Conditions were at times challenging with large wind shifts and gusts but the comradeship between sailors and support volunteers was fantastic. It also shows that you don't need to have a fast or expensive yacht to have top racing. These identical craft give all the opportunity to sail equally against each other.

In the end Mike won the singles racing with very consistent sailing. Mikes comment was "don't worry about the results - the main thing was we learnt how to make these yachts sail faster" by changing a couple of things on our quest for future regatta success Doubles went to Rod Viney with his crew Rian Klinger, Rian did a great job teaming with Rod and the two sailed consistently over the 4 races. The most rewarding aspect of on water for me was seeing Matt and Nathan sailing the 303's - both being super competitive at the top of the fleet with speed and tactics. Matt has not sailed much this year and Nathan had his 1st sail in a 303 for race 1. Well done to both of you.

Chris Thomas our Principal Race Officer has this season returned to the WYC after a number of years away with radio controlled yachts and it was great to see him leading our on water team of ten. On shore we required lots of support getting sailors into and out of their yachts sign on / off etc this group consisted of another 10 persons Pam and her team again showed how to provide an amazing dinner function for 50 persons with lunches also provided.
