19/2/16 : SoPYC Race 5 on 20Feb16
Saturday 20th February 2016, Association and Club Race 5 at SoPYC
The S80 fleet is first off at 1325 with a SoPYC mid-river start.
Filming a Great Success
At the time of writing I have not yet seen the end result, but the film team were thrilled at the performance last Saturday (thrilled....really?) and have some great footage for us. This will now be sent to Melbourne for final editing and production.
Thanks to all who participated and for making the effort for the early start.
S80 State Championships 2016
Preparations are being finalised and nominations are creeping in. Remember, you have until 29th February to indicate your interest.
As well as our visiting S80 squad from Dubai, there is every likelihood that we will have visitors from the M32 Worlds visiting us at the annex after racing – see below.
The M32 World Matching Racing Tour, will compete in Australia next month for the first time, off Bathers Beach in Fremantle.
The close-to-the-shore races are designed to attract spectators.
Swedish entrepreneur Hakan Svensson, who bought the professional racing series event last year, has spent about $700,000 transporting eight carbon-fibre catamarans to Perth for the race.
Twenty teams of top sailors from around the world will compete for a share of $US250,000 in the first leg of the tour. The tour involves five stages across three continents. The winning skipper takes home $US1 million ($1.4 million).
Gra Rosser Match Racing Championship
RPYC will once again be running the Gra Rosser Match Racing regatta on Sunday the 26th June. The Gra Rosser event is a great opportunity to experience Match Racing and further hone your Match Racing skills.
In the past there has been Class/Division trials to find a representative for their fleet. This year the club is looking for a better representation of fleets and offers each fleet the opportunity to put a team together.
The cut off for this process is the 1st March, at this point any of the eight spots not filled will be opened up to the wider Membership.
If you are wanting to compete but feel a little rusty that’s ok as the club can provide you with training opportunities with the already existing Match Racing Squad.
If you have any further questions please contact me or Hayden Swanson in the RPYC sailing office.
