2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF)

Among the teams that competed as part of the combined Oceania Team were Jonah Whitt, Guam, who competed in the 55kg weight Division. Jonah wrestled very well being the only athlete from Oceania to win a silver medal. after defeating both of his opponents before wrestling in the finals against China. The other athlete to compete was Jarvis Blesam Tarkong from Palau who returned to wrestling after being out with a broken leg in 2011. Jarvis competed in the 63kg weight class and placed 5th out of 6 wrestlers. Jarvis wrestled China is his first match and lost 2 other matches against Australia. For both of our athletes, China dominated the competition in both men and womens freestyle.

Congratulations to both wrestlers. We are very proud of Jonah being the only athlete from Oceania to win a silver medal and also Jarvis. We hope to see more athletes compete in the future especially in preparation for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
