CRACKING UP IN THE QUEENSCLIFF CUP

Think back a few weeks and recall the strong easterlies that finally abated on Tuesday 5th January allowing the first race of the Queenscliff Cup to take place. That race became a drifter and a battle with tides, and was won on handicap by Reverie and her resilient and notoriously jovial crew.

However, after the race, crew-member Peter Geels suffered a nasty fall and subsequent injury whilst handling the spinnaker on boad Reverie. He was transferred to the Committee Boat 'Iona', skippered by Les Irving-Dusting and aided by Sam Davis, and then taken to Queenscliff Harbour from where he was transported by road ambulance to Geelong for an overnight hospital stay.

Peter wrote to Vice-Commodore Richard Lowe at the weekend:

'I would like to thank all those involved in the running of the recent regatta at QCYC. The windy conditions made life difficult for all involved but the comradery and hospitality among members was exemplary.  Unfortunately my fun came to an abrupt halt immediately after the first race, breaking four ribs and my shoulder while dousing the spinnaker. I would like to thank all those at QCYC involved in arranging my speedy evacuation from the water and into an Ambulance for the trip to Geelong. I am making a slow, frustrating but full recovery, and apologise for causing drama and mayhem. I really enjoyed my few days at QCYC and will be back, fighting fit in the very near future'.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Peter, from all at QCYC.
