Tom Curren performed a miraculous come from behind victory to be awarded with the Sandringham Zebra’s Neil Bencraft Best & Fairest, announced last month.
The final match of the season saw Curren sitting five votes behind Adam Cockie, but a spectacular game with 25 disposals and two goals saw Curren poll 10 votes to win the award by a mere 2 points.
After only playing 10 senior VFL matches in 2011, Curren had a standout season accruing 19 games, 11 goals and averaging 18 disposals per game.
The Development Team count ran very differently with Tim Mavric winning by 23 votes. Mavric’s impressive season saw him also win the Development Squad Leader Newspaper/Veolia Player of the Year Award and finish third in the A.Todd Medal awarded to the Best & Fairest player in the AFL Victoria Development League.
