PNG Junior Valivas go down to New Zealand

The PNG Junior Valivas basketball team to the 9th Oceania Youth Basketball Tournament in Churchill in Victoria went down to New Zeland 104-21 in the opening match played yesterday. The Julie-Anne Diro coached side were give a lesson to think about after scoring a single digit in almost in all four quarters. Despite the loss, Marina Boino stood out for the in-experience Junior Valivas.

PNG fought very hard but only mastered six pionts in the first and secon half while in the thrid and fourt quarter they scored five and four points to go down 104-21 to New Zealand.

PNG Valivas is in pool two where they will face a daunting task meeting Fiji and Guam in their two remaining games before the finals. Meanwhile in women's pool one has Australia, Tahiti, New Caledonia and Samoa while in pool two has PNG, New Zealand, Fiji and Guam. For the men's pool one has Australia, Guam, Tahiti and Samoa and in pool two New Zealand, Fiji, Guam and PNG.
