BOMI Ralik Ratak Shootout Day 9 results

In the men's bracket, Namu and Maloelap went overtime, while Majuro-Jaluit and Arno-Lae played in the women's bracket in BOMI 12th Ralik Ratak Shootout Invitational Basketball Tournament action on Thursday  December 13, 2012.

In the first game, Likiep kept its match with Majuro close in the first half. Majuro managed just a 24-19 lead at the half. But a majority of Majuro's players showed up toward the close of the first half, and in the second, Majuro ran away to win the game 62-32. Zoya Langbit led Majuro with 18 and Momo Nimoto added 8. For Likiep, Frina Reiher continued to lead all scorers, this time with 21 points. Aire Lokeijak added five.

In the men's match of the night, Namu staked itself to a 17-10 first quarter lead. But it was shortlived as Maloelap rushed back in the sceond to finished the half just one point down, 28-27. From there on, the game was basket-for-basket with neither team gaining more than a three point lead. As the fourth quarter wound down to the last seconds, Namu's Melvin Kilma hit a two pointer to put Namu up 60-59. With seconds to go, Maloelap's Keoki Pinho was fouled and sank one of the two free rows to tie the game and force an overtime period.

The OT period continued the back and forth of the game. Namu managed to get a two-point lead, and a series of several fouls Maloelap committed to stop the clock resulted in the final 2-point margin, 69-67.

Namu's Aichy Abner was leading scorer with 16, Baybat Lattrik hit for 15 and Johnny Chobin scored 13. For Maloelap, Keoki Pinho had 23 and Spanky Pinho had 16.

The final game pitted two playoff-bound women's teams: Arno v Lae. Lae jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game before Arno managed to score a basket and finished the quarter ahead 12-4. As the second quarter started, it seemed like an alarm clock went off, waking up the Arno players who suddenly came alive scoring from all over the court. As the second quarter ended, Arno was up 28-20, and they never looked back as they won 42-31.

Arno's Neri Wase was leading scorer with 25 and Tonet Langmos scored 7 and dished out numerous assists. For Lae, Lyla Lemari and Shari Shoniber scored 11 each and Molena Louis added 6.

Four games are scheduled for Friday December 14, 2012:

6:30pm   Women   Mejit v Likiep

8pm   Women   Majuro v Lae

9:30pm   Men   Wotje v Likiep
