BOMI Ralik Ratak Shootout Day 10 results

Friday night, December 14, 2012, produced a full evening — and then some — of run-and-gun basketball at the BOMI 12th Ralik Ratak Shootout Invitational Basketball Tournament in Majuro. Four games kept local basketball fans entertained for seven hours as Arno played Jaluit and Wotje took on Likiep in the men's bracket, while Mejit played Likiep and Majuro challenged Lae in the women's.

In the first game, Jaluit — despite three losses — challenged Arno head-to-head and held a two-point lead at the halfway mark. They continued to score well and take advantage of Arno turnovers to maintain their slim lead, 49-47, at the end of the third period. But in the fourth quarter, Arno came back to take the lead on the strength of a strong performance from Kevin Address, who scored seven points, mostly on free throws. Final score: Arno 69-Jaluit 60. Leading scorers for Arno: Labio Kemem 12, Kevin Address 10. For Jaluit, Carliton Lolin had 15 and Robert Peter 14.

The second game featured the women's bracket, with Likiep looking for its first win of the tournament against Mejit. But Mejit was not to be denied victory. Though Likiep held the score close in the first quarter, by halftime Mejit was ahead 33-21. The final score was 77-49.

Nanki Jukwe led Mejit with 26 points. Justina Boaz scored 13 and Faith Lang added 12 for Mejit. For Likiep, Frina Reiher confirmed her status as one of the tournament's top scorers by hitting for 27 points. Carolynn Hone had 8.

The third game wrapped up women's pool play, as two playoff-bound teams — Majuro and Lae — competed. It turned out to be a relatively easy win for Majuro, which took control of the game in the first half and won 51-35 on the strength of Zoya Langbit's 18 point scoring spree. Momo Nimoto added seven points for Majuro. Team Lae was led by Lyla Lemari with 13 points and Candice Guavis with 8.

If there are any teams that can run faster than Wotje and Likiep, they haven't yet appeared in the tournament. Despite the late hour — or possibly because of it — these teams sprinted up and down the court from the opening toss until the final seconds of the fourth quarter. For 38 minutes, neither team could build more than a 5-point lead, for as soon as one went up, the other came right back. It wasn't until the final couple of minutes that Likiep's Zetang Ben, Don Jokna and Jomi Lawin put their team up for good. The final: 78-72.

Likiep was led by Carlo Jacklick who scored 14 points. He was assisted by Joab Peter with 13 and Victor Navarro with 10. Wotje was led by Jeremy Tomeing, who scored 22 and Tojang Lakjohn who added 18.

• 5:00pm   Maloelap v Rongelap

• 6:30pm   Lae v Arno

• 8:00pm   Mejit v Majuro
