Ebeye coaches attend clinic with Coach Newell
15 Ebeye coaches completed a Level One Basketball Coaching course taught by Coach Tom Newell, receiving their certificates from Coach Newell, US Ambassador Tom Armbruster, Basketball Development Officer Mouj Lewi and Coach Patrick Bing on January 12, 2013.
All told, 24 coaches attended at least one of the three days of coaches training and 15 received certificates for attending all three days: The coaches completing the course were: Kent Carillo, Danny Ratilmai, Juddson Ishoda, James Allenso, Willie Muller, Jien Anni, Carlton Ralpho, BJ Bing, Villaflor Jem, Waston Jolet, Aisa Lang, Jibke Michael, Linber Anej, Kawa Jatlos and Rebel John.
During the Ebeye visit, Coach Newell also spoke to about 100 high school students and ran a clinic for the high school players. He also made a donation of basketball shoes and jerseys.
An exciting game between Kwajalein High School and an all-star team from four Ebeye schools wrapped up the visit by Coach Newell. The game was played at the Army base gym on January 14, with Kwajalein managing a close 44-43 win over the Ebeye all-stars. Schools participating with players were Jabro Private School HS, Calvary High School, Seventh Adventist Hight School, and Kwajalein Atoll Hight School.
Kwajalein Atoll Local Government Sports Director Rebel John, who was a main organizer of the visit, expressed his and the coaches' gratitude to US Ambassodor Tom Armbruster and the Marshall Islands Basketball Federation for making Coach Tom Newell's visit to Ebeye possible. He also recognized USAKA Commander Colonel Shannon Boehm for his support.
On departure from Kwajalein January 14, Coach Newell said: "My wish is simple: PLAN on Coach Tom returning to your beautiful nation next January, same time, same station and wonderful purpose...our goal next year is to see the "fruits" of ALL of OUR labors both on the court and off."
