PROA, BLUE HAUS STILL SPOTLESS IN QQ CAGING

Proa, Blue Haus still spotless in QQ caging

NMC/Lions Club Proa's Lerio Pagarao attempts an acrobatic shot against OCM Corp.'s J.R. Barrios during their 3rd QQ Car Rental Basketball Cup matchup last Wednesday at the Garapan Basketball Court. (Walter Cepeda Sutherland) Northern Marians College/Lions Club Proa torched OCM Corp., 79-39, and Blue Haus nosed out KB/ABCD II Mart, 73-72, as the 3rd QQ Car Rental Basketball Cup season continued last Wednesday at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Both teams remained flawless after two games, while KB Mart evened out to a 1-1 slate and OCM is still searching for its first win after two tries.

The season continues tonight in Garapan with Mobil (1-1) taking on OCM Corp. at 6:30pm followed by Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell (0-2) versus KB Mart at 8:30pm. Six teams make up the field.

Proa darted off to a promising 20-6 favor from the tip as a handful of players chipped in on the offensive end.

OCM's engine stalled at the get-go and its struggles continued into the second quarter. They only managed two baskets in the period, while Proa cannoned out to a 41-10 separation at halftime.

Seven Proa players scored in the frame with Jack Lizama and Lerio Pagarao accounting for 18 points

Thanks to the 30-point gap for Proa at midpoint, the match was all but over from there, though OCM finally got its offense to show up a little against the opposing bench.

Lizama led the field with 20 points, while OCM's Zack Diaz finished as his team's only double-digit scorer with 10.

In the second match, Blue Haus got off to a strong start and worked out a 23-18 advantage in the first quarter. Blue Haus' Bruce Berline, Noel David, Junar Guiab, Pando Muleta, and Brendon Talania all bagged 4 points in the exchange.

KB Mart kept chomping at the bit, however, and turned the table on its rival, 41-38, at intermission with physical play in the paint that earned them markers from the stripe. Bernard Aquino's 9 points led the group in the first half.

KB Mart maintained control through the third period, 58-54, but Blue Haus had an ace up its sleeve heading into the last canto.

The latter's Elmer Esdrelon was a non-factor in the first half and though he was held to just 2 baskets in the third stanza, he erupted in the clutch with 17 points that pulled the heart out of the KB squad.

Esdrelon nailed three treys in the process and accounted for all but one of his team's baskets down the homestretch. His teammates, meanwhile, backed him up with some stingy defense. Esdrelon finished with 21 points to lead Blue Haus, while Tim Wesley fronted KB Mart with 17.
