Corrie calls for best shot

Article by VUNIWAQA BOLA writing in the Fiji Sun Online 28 Dec 2012

Samsung Fiji women’s  hockey coach Shaun Corrie wants nothing more than his team showing discipline as they prepare to take part in the World Hockey League in India.

Corrie will be taking 18 women to the international in February.

And they have started training already as they know that India won’t be an easy turf to play on especially when they’ll be up against Japan, India, Russia and Malaysia.

Japan is the ninth ranked team in the world and India is ranked 12th whereas Fiji lies at 59th.

“We are having our training sessions in the mornings and afternoon and we have included a few more players,”Corrie said.

“We have Lusi Turaganivalu and Salote Nacola who weren’t available in the first round.”
Corrie said they don’t expect the second round in India to be easy but all they could ask for from players was to give their best.

“It won’t be easy because these teams play international matches every month so we want all players who will go to be the best.

“We want them to play their utmost best and that’s all we can ask for because a good result will be a bonus for us.”

Corrie said playing in the Oceania competition doesn’t really reflect how good the team was but they know they would be up against the best and they have been working on their defensive areas.

He added these were some factors that he saw as key components of their preparation.
