Team Fiji settling in at New Delhi Hotel

Fiji's hockey teams had an uneventful trip to New Delhi via Hongkong.  Our Medical staff Dr Kavita and Team Physiotherapist Leticia took care of the contingent throughout the flight, and on arrival in Hongkong, Leticia took the contingent through a stretching routine.  Despite the long flight, the team arrived in New Delhi "pretty refreshed and well adjusted" according to FHF Development Officer Tai Smith.  The First Secretary of the Fiji High Commission Mr Alifereti Naioko and his wife Reijieli met the team at the airport and ensured safe transfer to the team's hotel. Prior to their departure for the hotel, he briefed the Fiji Management on all the Dos & Don'ts and all safety aspects.  He also volunteered to help those members of the team who needed to exchange their funds to the local currency.

Tai reports that "the accommodation is excellent, rooms spacious and clean, and the hotel staff always ready to serve us no matter the time.  The food is okay, not too spicy and with a good range - I don't think they knew Fijians had a healthy appetite.."

At 11.30am on Friday, the Fiji High Commissioner visited the team at the hotel and hosted them to lunch.  This was followed by a sevusevu by the Fiji Team presented by team member Ratu Jemesa Saqacala.

Later in the afternoon, the First Secretary took the Team Officials to the markets to shop for fruits and to the Foreign Exchange office. Tai added that "Mr. Neioko and his wife remained with us for the rest of the afternoon and after dropping us at the hotel, picked up the teams dirty laundry to wash at his residence. He and his wife Reijieli have been a tremendous help to the Fiji Team, we are truly blessed to have them here."

It is now Saturday morning in New Delhi and the team have gone shopping for "skins" to wear prior to their first practice session this evening. Its stlll quite chilly for our team.
