Introduction to Netball Workshop

After two years of running the SEPSA and ESSA program on behalf of the school communities Vanuatu Netball Association decided to run an Introduction to Netball Workshop to give the teacher’s the knowledge to be able to run the programs themselves. VNA development team worked in partnership with Charlie Sailas from the Shefa Education Office to pass the information to all the schools about the workshop. VNA is very grateful for his help to get the teachers to come to the workshop. VNA Development Officer, Beverly Ligo, and Manager, Sarah Murfett were pleased to welcome the 25 participants to the course. The teacher’s came from ten different schools including 7 schools that are new to netball. All the schools that participated were Ecole Centreville, Pango Center School, Olwie Primary School, Montmartre Secondary College, Melemaat Primary School, Central School, Epauto Secondary School, Onesua Presbyterian College, Eratap Primary School and Seaside Primary School. VNA would like to thank Mrs Attison (Pango Centre School), Mrs Garae (Ecole Centreville) & Mrs Daniel (Seaside Community) who all have experience with netball and assisted Beverly & Sarah to teach the other teachers about netball. The course consisted of a theory session in the morning talking about what netball is and the rules, before the teachers all went outside for practical on the court where they played netball. Finally, in the afternoon, there was a discussion on how to organise a sports competition which will be useful for the teachers to use for any sport, not just netball. Unfortunately it was not possible to do more practical because of the bad weather. All the teachers who attended the course gave good feedback to VNA and asked for another course to be run again in the future. VNA was pleased to donate one ball each to the schools that were new to netball so that they can start their program. VNA also told all the teachers that VNA is ready to help them any time if they would like help to introduce netball at their schools. VNA is looking forward to helping the teachers run the SEPSA & ESSA programs and having more participants come inside the netball community.
