LOCAL footballer Brad Larter was selected to play for the West Tigers under-18 team this year.

The Mittagong Lions under-18 division one player captained the West Tigers team who toured Queensland last month and played Gold Coast Titans.

Last season, playing up a year, he represented West Tigers as a 16-year-old playing half back.

He was selected for the West Tigers elite program which also toured Queensland.

The Moss Vale and Mittagong junior has been playing in junior NRL representative teams for the past two years and is currently in pre-season training for the under-18 SG Ball trials in October.

Larter is one of many talented Group 6 juniors who have gone into the West Tigers program.

West Tigers development officer Ben Rodgers has given the boys off field assistance where they learn about diet, exercise and their conduct.

Larter is in a program which will tutor him up to the end of the under-20s NRL competition.

His father, Mark Larter, said he and his wife very very appreciative of the local junior coaches who have volunteered their time to pass on their knowledge to Brad.

"There are a few local boys in the junior NRL system now and the local junior coaches should be congratulated as they are doing a great job," he said.

Brad has not played much football for Mittagong this season due to injury but he will return to the paddock for the under-18 finals which start next week.

The Mittagong under-18s division one team are aiming for back to back premierships.

Mark Larter said he did not remember a local team achieving this before.

"With a new look team this season the coaches are working very hard and again their tuition is all voluntary and should be commended. I just hope the young Lions players recognise the work that is put into them and commit to the task which is to achieve back to back premierships," he said.
