Double header to kick off 2016 season

Double header and grand final rematch to kick off the Bundaberg Rugby League 2016 season.

Hervey Bay Seagulls will go head to head with Brothers on March five, after the minor premiers went down with a twelve-point loss to the Brethren in last year’s grand final.

Wallaroos and West Panthers will also meet in the opening round, followed by Waves Tigers and East Magpies who will meet on March six, with Isis Devils taking the first bye.

The A-Grade season will comprise of twenty-one rounds followed by three weeks of finals.

Seagulls, Wallaroos and Isis will have six home games including one double header, with Waves and Brothers to have two.

The competition will see seven clubs enter an A-Grade side, with Maryborough Brothers to play in the Reserve-Grade.

“It’s positive to see that all clubs have managed to put forward an A-Grade side this year, which shows just how important Rugby League is in this community,” Bundaberg rugby League Chairman Mike Ireland said.

The competition will welcome back a number of previous players, with clubs also signing on a swag of new recruits.

“Whilst it’s great to have our returning players, it’s always good to have new players in the mix, which helps give diversity to teams,” Mike Ireland said.

Round one’s double header will kick off at  Hervey Bay’s Stafford Park, with Waves to host Easts.
