Magpies resume 2016 preparations

By Joe Dunlop

Cowra Magpies are back at training and coach Rory Brien is looking forward to the remainder of the preseason.

The Magpies however have been hit with a hurdle and won't be going to the West Wyalong knockout for the first time in a few seasons.

"I'd really like to go because we've got a squad that could go really well in that, but that's not up to us to decide," Brien said.

"So now I have to focus on getting a few trials under our belt and potentially heading to Kiama again to play."

The majority of the Magpies' squad is settled with Brien building his team around his two new signings of 2016 Cameron Breust and Tim Bassman.

"The exciting thing about it is we have a squad of good local players, I knew we needed a half back in Cam and Tim's and added bonus that we're happy to have.

"The main focus for the whole club is getting everyone down to training for this period so we can really knuckle down on the basics and get our fitness where it needs to be."

Training will begin again as usual tomorrow, 6pm at River Park and Thursday as well.

Vice President Wayne Browne said the club is looking good this year but wanted to reiterate to the players that the season starts now.

If anyone has any questions or wants further information turn up to River Park or call Rory on 0423212529.
