For all Club Volunteer Umpires,
The Australian Football League considers the role and performance of club umpires as important contributors to the presentation and conduct of the game at many levels across Australia. The performance of club umpires contributes to the enjoyment of players on the day, and often, more broadly the retention of people in Australian Football. The AFL Club Umpire Program is designed to enable people across the football community to gain knowledge and skills in umpiring and to have their competence in the role on match day confirmed.
With our ever expanding NTFL competition again growing, we need to recruit 80 new umpires
to help us fill the minimum 238 umpiring appointments (105 just alone are Field Umpires) required for the 48 NTFL matches each weekend of the season. As the majority of you already know, we lose on average 40 (majority experienced) NTFL umpires who move interstate for work, family or university reasons each year. Because of the number of NEW matches we will be struggling to fill umpiring appointments for U16’s, U14's and Youth Girls matches on a regular basis. Clubs will be informed via email first thing Thursday mornings by Joe Bell on which games require club umpires.
I would like each club, regardless of it’s size to nominate a minimum of 2-3 people over the age of 16 years, to complete the free National "AFL CLUB UMPIRE PROGRAM" online learning, which can be found on the following link:
http://www.aflcommunityclub.com.au/index.php?id=836
The course is free and takes around 30 minutes to complete. Applicants then print out their AFL certificate of completion like the attachment above and will need to bring it to the FREE "Club Field Umpires Practical Session" for CLUB FIELD umpires to be held on Monday 20th of October at 5.30pm to 7.15pm at TIO Stadium which is a 45 minute long practical session followed by the 2014 Laws DVD viewing and Q&A (so please wear joggers) in order to complete their accreditation.
Once accredited, the club FIELD umpires will be:
- Paid 70% of the current NTFLUA rates (on invoice after rounds 6, 12 & 18)
- Given a FREE "Basic Umpires Kit" which contains a whistle, cap, wristbands, water-bottle, drawstring bag, new umpire AFL a Basic Guide DVD, 2014 Laws DVD and Law Book.
- Clubs will also be given 2 extra volunteer NTFL passes for the season to be used for their club field umpires
- AFLNT Volunteer Umpire purple shirts will be handed out to those clubs who don’t have any from last season or require more.
We look forward to working with all clubs to ensure we have competent and accredited umpires and if you have any further questions please feel free to contact the AFLNT Community Football Department on 89804811.
