The Roxburgh Park Football Club is based in the North Western suburbs of Melbourne. We are very much a family orientated club with an emphasis on keeping our young children off the streets and away from their computers by trying to create a friendly and enjoyable environment.
The club entered the EDFL in 2002 as a junior club only. In season 2005 the club wins its first junior premiership in the under 14’s. In that same year the club also enters its seniors, reserves and under 18’s teams in the competition. In 2011 the club was excited to have its first player drafted in the AFL, with Ahmed Saad being selected by the St Kilda FC. In season 2012 the seniors and reserves created history by participating in the finals for the first time. In season 2014 the seniors played off in its first ever grand final unfortunately losing to East Keilor. As we are a relatively young club in comparison to the other clubs within the EDFL we are very proud with our progress in both the open age and junior teams.
Over the past few years we have seen further growth of our football club with the introduction of an under 8’s team, a junior girls side and the Auskick programme. This year will be the introduction of another junior girls team along with a senior (open age) side. We have found the introduction of the girl’s side last year to be a huge success. The girls were regular attendee’s at our Thursday night meals/selection nights and many of our club functions.

Facebook: 2016 Lakers Youth Girls Relaunch & Open Age Women's Team Launch. Team: Lakers
With several girls graduating from the Lakers Youth Girls Team of 2015, The Lakers Club wants to create a pathway which keeps the players at the club. We are also seeking expressions of interest from women who are interested in joining the existing core group of women graduating from the youth girls who bring with them premiership and interleague experience to be part of the clubs first ever open age team, newcomers are welcome to the sport.
The club is committed to women's football and creating a pathway to AFL level in a game which is booming. Given there is a vision for a national competition not too far down the track, it's what it’s all about. The new Open Age Women’s Team will be coached by Matt Newbury, who is stepping up after two years as the Lakers Youth Girls Coach, which included a premiership in the 2015 season & runners up in the 2014 season during his 1st year.
The Youth Girls which was created 4 years ago started out with only one player, no Coach and a parent (Fiona Edwards) who became the Team Co-Ordinator. With hard work and dedication both on and off the field, the Lakers Youth Girls Team numbers grew and flourished and was rewarded with the ultimate success of the Youth Girls 2015 Premiership in the Ballarat Football League. With the now experienced off field support team of both the Youth Girls and the Open Age Women’s Team combining, the players from the Youth Girls and the Open Age Woman’s Teams will be combining on field for training programs, skills and player development with the first pre-season training session commencing on Wednesday, November 25 @ 5pm at the Ballarat Grammar School North Oval off Norman Street behind the CEEd center with 3 further sessions on Wednesday 2nd, 9th & 16th December, 2015 5-6pm Further pre-season training sessions will commence approximately Mid-February 2016.
