The newest club in the AFL North Coast Junior Competition was launched on Sunday 8 February, with the Manning Valley club unveiling their logo, uniform, and colours. We welcome the Mustangs into the competition and look forward to watching the club grow in the coming years.
After four very successful years of Auskick in the Manning Valley area, founders Craig and Julie McLachlan decided in was time for a Junior Club to be formed. With well over 100 Auskickers over the past 4 years, the husband and wife team have worked tirelessly to grow the sport in a rugby league dominated area. The hard work paid off when Julie won the State Auskick Volunteer of the Year award in 2012.
Late in 2015, Craig, Julie and the Committee decided it was time to form a pathway for the kids coming out of Auskick to continue their dreams of playing AFL football. After months of hard work deciding on the name, colours and mascot for the new club and also keeping it a secret from the community, the official launch of the Manning Valley Australian Football Club occurred on Sunday the 7th of February.
The day consisted of fun AFL activities for the kids including the Big Kick inflatable, sausage sizzle, a parent information session and registration, the Kick for Cash and of course, the unveiling of the official name, the Manning Valley Mustangs. The players will wear a guernsey which portrays three Mustangs running alongside the Manning River with colours blue, purple and white.
With around 70 people and kids attending the launch including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the day was a great success and a great start to their inaugural season. The local radio station, newspaper and Prime 7 were also there to cover the day and with more media exposure, the Club can only grow bigger and better. The club will be entering an Under 11s and Under 13s team into the AFL North Coast Junior Competition as well as running the Auskick program for the youngsters.
