Destroying the reigning premiers only further enhanced the confidence Manunda Hawks coach Paul Griffiths has in his side. Griffiths, with supreme belief in his troops, had his pre-game faith validated – with an exclamation mark on Saturday.
“I was very confident going into the game,” he said. His side tormented the Cairns Saints with a 106-point belting, but Griffiths admitted he never expected a margin of that magnitude. “You never think you’re going to win like that against the reigning premiers,” he said. “But we train hard and there’s a real belief amongst the group.”
Griffiths’ side underlined their complete team effort across four quarters, by keeping the Saints to just four goals, and one after half-time.
“It was a real even spread, to split them would be unfair,” said Griffiths as he tried to pinpoint his best players. “The back six were fantastic to keep them to just four goals.”
