WHEN the AFL Townsville administrators of the future look back, they will see 2013 as the year the sport really took off in North Queensland.

The local organising body is hoping to build on the excitement of March's NAB Cup game between the Gold Coast Suns and North Melbourne Kangaroos, the city's first elite-level AFL game, with a change to the game's board structure.

Each member of the board will have a portfolio and responsibilities which AFL Townsville chairman Peter Busch said they hope will promote all aspects of the game evenly and transparently.
