Churchill North Cheer Squad

The students from Churchill North Primary School took advantage of the global event in their backyard by coming to lend their support to the Pacific Youth Basketball teams.

Aged from 5-12, the 120 students added extra encouragement and enthusiasm to the first day of games.

Principal Debbie Edwards relished the opportunity to give her pupils a great cultural experience.

“They have been working with their buddies, learning about the nations here at the tournament, so it’s all been very exciting”.

The small school has been buzzing with basketball fever after being invited to the tournament following a clinic with Opal’s player Belinda Snell.

Churchill North Primary has a high number of students involved in basketball as an extra-curricular activity.

The sports popularity was obvious, as signs and chants complimented the tournaments opening matches, with both teams being supported by the crowd.
