Coach registration and accreditation is a must for 2016
For this 2016 season, all coaches must:
- be registered before they are permitted to coach at any level (no exceptions),
- be AFL Level 1 Coach Accredited by June 30, 2016 (no later and no exemptions).
Registration
Registration is with a Club and is the same process as for players, except that coaches choose the 'Coach' option (and not the 'Player' option). Visit the BDJFA Membership Registration 2016 page for more information or the coach may contact the Club Registrar.
NOTE: Auskick coaches/coordinators should register with the Club database for Year 3s to 10s and not with their Auskick Centre.
After a coach has registered with a Club, the Club may then check the Coach's accreditation status (in Fox Sports Pulse) as it will appear against the Coach's membership record.
Accreditation
Where a Coach is not accredited (or accreditation has expired and not eligble for renewal), the Coach must complete the AFL Level 1 Coach Accreditation course, appropriate to the level of the group that the Coach will be coaching. The four levels are...
- Auskick (Pre-primary to Year 2)
- Junior (Year 3 to Year 6)
- Youth (Year 7 to Year 12)
- Senior (Colts, Reserves, League)
Level 1 Coaching courses are held throughout the region and Perth metropolitan area. Prior registration is a must, referring to the WA Football Level 1 Coaching Course page. The course fee is $165 (which includes course materials, AFL Coach Certificate and Card and four year membership with the Australian Football Coaches Association).
Subject to any changes, courses being held within the south west region are:
- Sunday, April 3, Youth and Senior only - VC Mitchell Park, Donnybrook
- Sunday, May 1, Auskick and Junior only - VC Mitchell Park, Donnybrook (changed from Sir Stewart Bovell Park, Busselton)
- Sunday, May 29. Youth and Senior only - Hands Oval, South Bunbury
- Sunday, June 12. Auskick and Junior only - Hands Oval, South Bunbury
For more information, visit WA Football Level 1 Coaching Course, or email asco@bdjfa.org.au.
Accreditation - Online component
Coaches should complete the online component of the coaching accreditation before attending the course and before coaching. After completing the online component, coaches should save a copy of the certificate to their computer, and then print a copy as this will be required for the course.
The online component comes in two formats...
There's no harm is starting the online component now!
Accreditation renewal
If a coach’s accreditation has expired recently, they may be eligible for a renewal.
For renewal, it is important that the coach is registered in the membership database for their Club, as a coach and for the current season. This way the coach's current contact details will be in the national registration system and can be matched to the coach's accreditation details.
On expiry of accreditation (normally December 31, four years after successful completion of the course), the coach should receive an email inviting them to apply for re-accreditation. The coach should then complete the re-accreditation form online. The application should then flow through to the South West Regional Football Office for endorsement.
Re-accreditation is generally approved when:
- The coach has coached during the accreditation period, without incident
- The coach has attended some form of coach education. This is likely to be managed on a points system in future and will advise further when details confirmed
The Regional Football Office will seek further information and re-accreditation may not be endorsed when:
- The coach has not coached for period greater than 24 months
- 24 months has passed since previous accreditation expired
- The coach has received citations in the previous accreditation period
- The coach has not attended coach education sessions
