16s & 18s Join 12s in VC!

Congratulations to our McKinnon Cougar U16-1 and U18-1 boys who last night secured a well-deserved spot in VC.

The U16-1’s played Nunawading 2 on Friday night in a tight crossover game, which they won in a nail-biting yet gallant 2-point fashion. This is a fantastic achievement given the majority of the team are bottom-age. 16’s Head Coach Jerome Parot has done a fantastic job in coaching two consecutive 16’s groups to VC and will surely be looking forward to the season ahead.

The U18-1’s won their cross-over game against Sunbury last night by an impressive 15 points. The Cougars lead for the majority of the game to comfortably secure their elusive VC spot in the end. Head Coach Marcus Timmons is looking forward to competing against some strong teams throughout the season, which will provide the Cougars with a great opportunity to improve. Timmons and the team have done a remarkable job in making VC from starting at the bottom pool at the first round of grading. Five of the U18 players have played together in the Cougars representative program since U12’s and like the 16’s, half of the team are bottom age.

This will be the second consecutive year that McKinnon’s 16-1 and 18-1 teams have made VC, which is a great accomplishment. A big well done to both coaches for leading their teams to victory and to all the players who have gone their hardest throughout the grading phase. The McKinnon Cougars now have 3 teams in VC for season 2013 with the U12-1 boys securing their spot before Christmas. This will be the first time in 5 years that McKinnon has had an U12 team in VC, which is a credit to Head Coach Paul Geer and Assistant Coach Mark Hawker who have been coaching the 12-1’s program for the past 3 years.

All Cougars teams have performed well throughout the grading phase with Season 2013 looking to be an exciting and successful one for the McKinnon Cougars!
