Basketball Geelong Staff - Competitions and the whole team

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I announce our new Competitions staff, replacing Amy Hawthorne and Caitlin Shadbolt.

Chris Bradshaw will be the Competitions Manager and his role will cover overall management of the BG competitions portfolio. He will also be the staff representative to the newly created Competitions Committee. Chris will have a large and growing portfolio but his initial focus will be on working with our 13 clubs to deliver a fantastic Geelong Basketball League. This role will be assisting Clubs with delivery of teams to our competitions and support for their volunteers and coaches (in conjunction with the Director of Coaching  - who’s focus in 2013 is Coach Education and Development). Chris is a Geelong local who has played domestic Basketball here since he was 12 and whilst most recently working as a Property Manager he had prior to that spent 6 years working with Basketball Victoria in administration roles with the then Victorian Basketball League. Chris will commence with Basketball Geelong on Monday January 14th, 2013.

Liam Costello who has been working with Basketball Geelong over the last 5 weeks and managed the recent Geelong Junior Tournament will be joining us fulltime as the Competitions Administrator from Monday. Liam will be the primary support to Chris but will also have direct responsibility for the Supercats School League and our growing Social competitions. Liam has been assisting Vicki with Competition Management during the last period and will now become the primary contact for all your Competition enquiries until Chris commences. Liam is currently a SEABL level referee and will also focus on the co-ordination and development of referees in conjunction with the Referees Advisor. Liam’s background also includes former President of Altona Bay Basketball Association and Vice President of Metro & Southern Districts Basketball Association.

The appointment of Chris and Liam also concludes the staffing restructure as a result of the integration of Basketball Geelong and the Supercats. Other BG staff now include David Hoey as the Commercial Manager, formerly General Manager Supercats, with his focus being management of all the sponsorship properties and as well as delivery of our corporate partnerships. Beth Davis is now the Communications & Events Manager with responsibility for SEABL and Big V match day delivery as well as being the primary contact for our 6 senior representative teams. Beth will manage all our media and online communications as well as deliver our key Events including SuperBall, End of Season Awards, Trivia Nights, etc.

Braden Short, who has taken over from Cortney Williamson mid-year will continue on as the Participation Co-ordinator (part-time) with responsibility for Aussie Hoops and the Active After Schools Community programs, the key office contact for VJBL and our representative teams and our Holiday Super Camps and Super Hoops (School clinics). Peter Richardson as the new Bookkeeper round out the office team.

In the next few weeks Basketball Geelong will be finalising our Strategic Plan 2013-16 which will lay the foundations for the staff to continue to grow Basketball in Geelong.

NOTE:   The Basketball Geelong/Supercats Office will close for Christmas/New Year on Friday December 21 and re-open on Monday January 7.
