Committees of the Commission

Why are Committees used?

Committees are often the working force at the heart of an organisation.  Effective organisations are often directly related to effective committees.

Under the BG Constitution, the Commission may establish such Committees as it deems necessary to assist it in carrying out its functions and work. Committees provide an opportunity to examine or deal with issues in more detail that would commonly be possible during Commission meetings.

When Committees are used correctly, the specialised skills and interests of members and stakeholders are used to their full advantage as they provide a great opportunity for more members and stakeholders to get involved in the detailed work of Basketball Geelong and the Supercats.

More importantly, they provide an opportunity for new or inexperienced members or stakeholders to gain valuable insight into Basketball Geelong and the Supercats and develop confidence by serving on Committees.

Types of Committees

There are two basic kinds of Committees:

  • Standing - committees that are created by the standing orders, rules, by-laws, or regulations of an association. They function on a permanent basis (e,g. a finance or audit committee)
  • Ad hoc - committees are appointed for a specific purpose on a short-term basis (e.g, to organise an event)

Committees of the Commission

The standing Committees of the Commission will be as follows:

  • Competition Committeee
  • Supercats Elite Performance Committee
  • Community and Participation Committee

All Committees will have their powers and responsibilities set out in their own individual Terms of Reference (TOR).  Each Committee must act in accordance with their respective TOR and in accordance with the Commission's Committee Policy - General Terms of Reference.
