2013 NORTH SYDNEY COMMUNITY CARNIVAL

On Tuesday the 12th of February, over 3000 students across ten schools in the North Sydney area had the opportunity to participate in the very first North Sydney Community Carnival. The 2013 Community Carnival focused on the NRL’s “Tackle Bullying” program where players from various NRL Clubs and NRL Ambassadors visited local schools and reinforced key welfare and Anti Bullying messages. The Community Carnival assembly visits allowed our NRL Players and Ambassadors to share their personal stories and offer some fantastic advice and strategies to overcome and tackle bullying. The teachers and students had the opportunity to mingle with various players from the Cronulla Sharks, Manly Sea Eagles and the Sydney Roosters and also NRL Ambassadors Hazem El Masri and Andrew Ryan.

El Masri was a very popular figure in the Galston area (see photo) with both primary and high schools benefitting from his tales of life in Australia as a young immigrant. Sean Montgomery, Principal Galston Public School, was very impressed with the campaign, commenting that “the program was very well organised. All presenters interacted positively with the students. We would welcome another similar NRL program at our school!”
