About the PPBA

Welcome to the game of Basketball and thank you for supporting your local basketball association. We hope you enjoy your time playing in this association, and to help things along we have produced this information sheet to assist you and us.

Apart from organising basketball in Port Pirie we also try to encourage player development to help them learn about the game and so increase player enjoyment in the game.

Coaching and training material is available, please feel free to approach our Development Officer/Head Coach Clive Munzberg for any assistance. The association can also organise coaching and training clinics with Clive and  Coaches we have available if enough enquiries are made.

Management

The association has a representative group named the Board of Management of 9 positions held by various club members. The positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Development Officer, Senior Coordinator, Junior Coordinator, Registrar & Facilities Manager.

Inside that BOM there are sub committees that have also been created with the much needed assistance of parents & players alike to oversee the operation of the Port Pirie Basketball Association.

The day to dayrunning of the Association is carried out by an Executive Committee which is made up of the President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer.

Nomination/Team Sheet

Each team must have a contact person listed on the nomination/team sheet. Please submit your nomination/team sheet by the set date, to ensure that the draw can be completed and forwarded to you (this process can take up to 3 weeks), with full details for any new players. Any new player(s) gained during a season can be added to the scoresheet, with full details recorded on the reverse.

Fees

Players who play in this association are registered with SA Country , Basketball Australia, and are insured through SA Country (NB Insurance cover is safety net only). Player fees per season charged by the association vary from time to time. Clubs charge additional amounts to cover expenses such as training time, uniform hire etc.  Payment of fees are due by the first round of the competition and now are payable on-line, so please pay your fees on time. If teams do not pay their fees they may not be allowed to play.

Bench Officials

Each team is required to provide personnel to perform scoring duties (1 for the clock or for the scoresheet). This association uses the FIBA running scoresheet. If a team fails to provide a scorer, there is a penalty imposed, which can be further explained in our By-Laws (link to pdf).

Forfeit

The Forfeit Policy is as explained in our By-Laws (link to pdf) or alternatively it can be found on the Court 1 Pin Board. Notification should not be made to the Basketball Office, as it is unlikely t o be received in a timely manner, but directly to the Coordinators & Coaches in Charge of the applicable grade.

Uniforms

Teams are required to be in correct uniform by round 1, if you are having problems with the manufacture or delivery of uniforms you can seek an exemption from this rule.

Results etc.

The PPBA will have all results published weekly on this website and also in The Recorder (often as possible), however it is a long arduous task, so on some occasions publication could be late.

Referees

Referees are part of the game and we could always do with additional referees, so if you would like to referee please talk to referee-in- charge for your night for more details.

Roster Duties

Each night has an Roster Duty Club whose responsibility it is to ensure game clocks start on time, referees and scorers are found as provided by clubs and score sheets are collected and placed in the door of the stadium office.

Carnivals

To raise money the association runs two carnivals (Junior and Senior) with teams from around the state competing. The BOM members, Teams and Parents from the Port Pirie Association are required to help run these carnivals.

Representative Basketball

The Association enters teams in SA Country Championships (both Senior & Junior), our own carnival, and the Port Augusta and Whyalla Carnivals respectively. Interested players are invited to attend trainings each Sunday between carnivals for more details on participation. All registered player are eligible to try-out for combine & state teams.

Finally if you have any problems firstly talk with your Club Representative. If they cannot help you, submit your problem in writing to the PPBA committee for discussion to occur at their next meeting.
