Boomers 2012 Christmas Wrap
It's been another big year of basketball at Boomerland and we'll be doing it all again in 2013.
But just to wrap things up for 2012, here's a quick word on all our programs from across the Club.
Here at Boomers Media (Web site division), we can only report on what we hear about what is happening around the Club - so if you have any news or stories of interesting things from anywhere around the Club, we're happy to publish pretty much anything ... contributions always welcome through the Club office.
It's your Club Web site, so get involved !
The Primary School season for Spring 2012 has just been completed, with Grand Finals played and won at Sheahan's Road.
There is a separate article published in Boomers News on all Primary School Grand Final results.
Junior Domestic (Saturday)
The EDJBA has completed their last round for 2012 on Saturday 15th December, then there is a long mid season break until Saturday 2nd February 2013. Most schools are back around 29th January so be ready in case your coach tells you there is training in the week leading up to the first game back on 2nd Feb.
From the first week of February, there are then four home and away rounds before finals for Summer 2012/13.
Eltham/Dandenong run a huge junior tournament on the Australia Day long weekend and junior domestic teams are welcome to enter a team if they wish. Most of the Junior Championship teams enter and the tournament caters to a wide range of teams.
If your Junior Domestic (EDBJA) team wants to enter they need to get onto the Eltham Tournament Website as soon as possible. Team entry is free for domestic teams so that is even better. If you have any problems call Eltham on 9439 5686 as they are keen to get some more domestic teams playing.
Good luck to teams for the remainder of the summer season for 2012/13.
Grand Finals have been happening over the past week. We hope all teams have had an enjoyable season and are coming back next season. We ran an advertisement in some local papers and we've had some new teams enter which is good for the competition as it provides new teams to play against. Registrations are currently open and you need to put your entries in as soon as possible through the Club Web site as some of the nights do fill fairly quickly.
The Autumn season starts at the beginning of February 2013 for all Senior Domestic competitions.
Grading Phase 1 is now complete with cross over games being completed on Friday 14th December.
A quick glance at results suggests that the boys U12-1, U14-1 and U18-1 teams have all qualified directly into the Championship Division (VJCL), while for the girls U12-1, U14-1, U16-1 and U18-1 have all qualified into VJCL. And to top it off for the girls, the U12-2 and U16-2 girls have also qualified into Championship already, which is a fabulous achievement by these girls and their coaches - great job girls !
There is one cross over game result still to be posted where the U18-2 girls may also qualify into VJCL - we'll update this report once the game result is available. Overall, this is a fabulous start to the season for our Junior Championship teams, especially for the junior girls.
The Junior Championship program also has a break until the Eltham Australia Day Tournament and we trust Team Managers will let the players/families know what is happening is respect to the tournament and any team training sessions occurring prior to the Tournament. Stadiums are shut from 22nd December to 14th January to allow the floors to be resealed.
It is important that players and families relax and rest but if your coach has given you some fitness or skills work to do try and incorporate at least some of it into your holiday schedule of fun. You've worked hard since try-outs don't relax too much and don't eat too much Christmas pudding or else you'll be sweating it all back out at training in January (Ed: Trust me, it's true - we have personally witnessed some pretty tough sessions first time back after Christmas !).
So congratulations to all teams that have already qualified into the VJCL - all other teams will be back in February to commence grading Phase 2, so good luck and GO BOOMERS !
The coming 2013 season is looking good for all our Big V teams. The men will have some new players to announce in the New Year along with some returning guys from 2012. The women also have a few new faces and we hope to have the teams listed on the Club Web site in the New Year.
Both of our Youth League teams are part of the new U23 Victorian Youth Championship program which is a combination of the old Big V Youth League and SEABL D-League.
This is a wonderful endorsement of the success we are having in the Big V program and everyone associated with the program is to be congratulated.
Talking of being associated we need volunteers, our Convenor Holly Unwin would love to talk with any-one that can provide some support either one time or ongoing - please contact her via email in the first instance at firstname.lastname@example.org
Also our U23 Youth Champ Men need a Team Manager for the season, the role is not to different to a TM on a Saturday or Friday - check names are listed correctly, every-one knows what is happening, and ensure drinks are on hand at the games. Again please contact Holly if you can help with this.
Early notice we will again be looking for some accommodation and some work for at least one player from the US. Can you have a think about it and when more details in the New Year, please let David Feehan at the Club know if you can help.
The women are sitting just outside the top four after a tough loss to the Sydney Uni Flames at the Ven on Friday night. There is a bit of an injury crisis in the team at present, with key bigs Penaluna and McDonald both sitting on the sidelines at the Flames game.
The last home game of the year is on Saturday 22nd December, the Bertocci Christmas game, with the Boomers take on Logan Thunder with a 7:30pm tip off. The Boomers will be desperate to secure a win and stay in touch with the top 4 - the break could not have come at a better time to give time for current injuries to recover.
So come along to support your WNBL Boomers and remember the first 100 families through the door will receive a Bertocchi show bag. Bertocchi - Simply the Best.
It's a Wrap
So it's a wrap for 2012 - a special thanks to all our willing volunteers from every program around the Club - the Boomers would not exist without the amazing contributions from all our volunteers.
And we always need more volunteers - if your family gets some sort of benefit from the Club, how about giving something back in 2013 ? There is always something to do, so just let our Club Manager David Feehan know you have some time on your hands at email@example.com
To everyone at Boomerland - stay safe for the holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the New Year for another big year in 2013 - GO BOOMERS !
