2013 shapes up as another big year at Boomerland across all our programs ... here's a quick snapshot of what's in store over the coming few months.
Our after school Primary School competition that runs after school on week days at Sheahan's Road commences on 4th March.
This is a great program for our Club as it introduces many girls and boys to the sport. It has been wonderful to see the large number of teams participate and the high level of kids progress through this competition and progress to play with Bulleen in Junior Domestic teams on Saturdays in the EDJBA.
Junior Domestic (EDJBA)
A number of our EDJBA Junior Domestic teams are playing in the Eltham Tournament over the Australia Day long weekend. This is a great chance for our domestic teams to gain experience together playing in a tournament, there are not many tournaments around for club teams to play in.
For teams not playing at the Eltham Tournament, the first game back is Saturday 2nd February and this is the 4th last round of the Summer season before finals.
As early as it seems we will be having registration day for the EDJBA 2013 Winter season on Saturday 16th February and online registrations will be available from Friday 1st February.
It is great to see a number of new teams joining our various midweek Senior Domestic competitions. Fixtures have been posted on the Club Web site for the first two rounds with the first games starting on Tuesday 29th January.
A large number of teams registered after the first 2 rounds were fixtured and whilst you may not have a game next week we will ensure you are put into games for either Round 2 or Round 3.
Good luck to everyone, we hope you have a great season and thanks for playing in our competition.
Junior Championship (VJBL)
At the end of Grading Phase 1 we had 10 teams qualify for the championship (VJCL) division - Boys 12-1, 14-1, 18-1 and Girls 12-1, 12-2, 14-1, 16-1, 16-2, 18-1 and 18-2. There are another 5 teams still with a chance to make VC plus our two U20 teams.
For several years now we have been achieving a high number of teams in VC and sometimes we take it for granted. To make VJCL means a team is one of the top 20 teams in Victoria in their age group. Congratulations to the teams and their coaches as this is a wonderful testament to the strong program that has been established over the past few years.
Many of our Junior Championship teams are also playing in the Eltham Dandenond tournament over the Australia Day long weekend, which is the traditional warm up for the New Year. Good luck to all our Boomers teams for the tournament and for VJBL Grading phase 2 which starts next week.
For parents that are new to the program next Sunday (3rd February) at 9 am at Sheahans Road there is a 'Shot Clock' course and a 'Scoring' course. Every family is required to sit on the bench a few times a season and assist with the scoresheet or electronics so these courses are worth doing and will save you from being abused during a game by 'rabid spectators' when you make a mistake!
Senior Championship (Big V)
Our Big V teams are already back at training in preparation for the season that kicks off in early March with a preseason tournament at Frankston.
We are certainly hoping to take a step forward with all our Big V teams for season 2013 and we will be announcing our teams over the coming few weeks. We also hope to be announcing some of the naming sponsors for our Big V teams very soon.
And both our men and women Youth Championship teams need Team Managers for the season - please contact the Club if you can help with this.
What a frustrating season this has been. We have a talented team but they can't seem to get their mojo working in 2012/2013. The girls have five games left and on paper they can make fourth spot. They must win these last five games starting this weekend with a road trip double to play Canberra and Sydney.
The last three games of the season are all at home and we want to see The Veneto bursting at the seams for these last games so please get to the games. Two of these last three home games will be sponsored home games.
Saturday the 2nd of February v Logan is our very special BERTOCCHI game and we all know how much we love getting to the game early to get one of their showbags. Simply the Best!!
On Sunday 10th we meet the Canberra Capitals in the afternoon and will be treated to a taste sensation which will see THE PANCAKE PARLOUR put on a spread for all ... just in time for Shrove Tuesday. Showbags and yummy taste sensations for all awaits at this game.
The final regular season game is on Friday 15th against the mighty Adelaide Lightning with a 7:30pm tip-off.
