Gange Rejoins Meteors

Mackay Basketball is pleased to announce that two-time QBL championship player Matt Gange will rejoin the McDonald's Meteors again in 2013, after agreeing to a new one-year deal with the club.

Gange averaged 12.4 points per game for the McDonalds Meteors last season, along with 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.  He was also the recipient of the clubs' Best Defensive Player award for the second year running.

Since captaining the McDonald's Meteors to the 2012 QBL championship in September, the 26-year old point guard made the move to Spain where he has spent the past 4-months playing for Spanish club Zamora in the EBA Basketball Championship (Liga Española de Baloncesto)

McDonald's Meteors Head Coach Joel Khalu said Gange's return was a huge bonus for the club.

"Matt's a big piece of our puzzle and he's been a valuable contributor in both of our QBL championship teams," Khalu said.

"We'll be focusing on our defence much more this upcoming QBL season and Matt brings a lot of intensity to that end of the floor."

"As a point guard, he's also our floor general and has a very high basketball IQ and understands the tempo which we need to play at to achieve success."

"It's great to have him back on deck as we take on the three-peat challenge."

Gange said he was excited about returning to McDonalds Meteors for a third consecutive season.

"I really enjoy living in Mackay and the community support we have is fantastic and a big reason why I want to continue playing here," Gange said.

"Defending our title last year was a big challenge and now we have a goal of winning three in a row which is going to be even harder."

"We'll definitely be up for it though and I am looking forward to returning to Mackay to start training again with the boys," Gange added.

Gange will rejoin his McDonalds Meteors teammates when the team's official pre-season training begins on March 4.
