Meteorettes MVP Returns To Take Point

Mackay Basketball is excited to announce that last year's Global Product Search Meteorettes most valuable player Jillian Haughton, has become the first player to re-sign with the team for QBL season 2013.

The 20-year old point guard had an outstanding debut season for the Global Product Search Meteorettes last year.  Haughton averaged 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, helping the club win its second women's QBL title.

Haughton's play was even more impressive in the QBL finals series.  Competing through the pain of multiple cracked ribs, the floor general finished with 37-points, 11-rebounds, 7-steals and 6-assists in the QBL semi-final against Bundaberg and then backed that effort up with a near triple-double the following night against Gladstone in the championship decider.

The former Australian junior representative will once again run the team from the point guard position and Global Product Search Meteorettes Head Coach Mick Virgo said he was happy having Jill back to take the lead.

"Jill has a tremendous understanding of the game and reads situations well," he said.

"She can see a play happening before it actually takes place and that's a rare trait for a player of her age."

"When you combine her basketball IQ along with her size, strength and versatility, you have many of the tools you need to be a successful point guard."

"We are very pleased that she decided to stay in Mackay and play for our club for a second straight season," he added.

Haughton said she was looking forward to beginning the team's QBL title defence.

"It's going to be a big challenge but if we can retain a lot of players from last year's group and we continue to work hard there's no reason why we can repeat," Haughton said.

"We've just got to continue to push ourselves that bit further each and every day and I'm sure Mick (Virgo) will make sure we do that."

The Global Product Search Meteorettes begin their pre-season conditioning campaign in March.
